Gone With The Wind - Scented Book Candle
Scent: Atlanta
Size: 12.5 oz.
This candle is inspired by Margaret Mitchell's epic novel of love and war, Pulitzer Prize winner.
Gone with the Wind became an instant success and was the top American fiction bestseller in 1936 and 1937. It was adapted into the 1939 film of the same name, which has been considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made. It received the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The main characters, irresistible Scarlett and charming Rhett became two of the most famous lovers in the English-speaking world since Romeo and Juliet.
Many novels have been written about the Civil War and its aftermath. None takes us into the burning fields and cities of the American South as Gone With the Wind does, creating devastating scenes and portraits of characters so vivid that we remember their words and feel their pain and hunger for the rest of our lives.
It is the only novel by Mitchell published during her lifetime. She once said that if Gone with the Wind has a theme it is that of survival.
It's interesting to see how life has changed since then and where it went wrong originally. It is hard to imagine now but back then by law and Southern social convention, household heads were adult, white propertied males, and all white women and all African Americans were thought to require protection and guidance because they lacked the capacity for reason and self-control.
We called this scent the Southern Belle. It is a complex floral powerhouse. Delicate yet satisfyingly bold, this fragrance captures spring at the peak of its blossoming glory with its marriage of magnolia, peony, and freesia.
